Heritage Photo Canvas

Welcome all you wonderful twiddlers.

You have just come from the wonderfully inspiring Jo Kinders blog I will endeavour to do the same.

If you need a link back to our ning to check the order of the blog hop and times just click here.

I have put my favourite CD in the player "Adele 21"  so I am ready to get to work typing up this blog post and TO SING.  The kids have just yelled out to stop. BWAHAHAHA.

This is a canvas I have done for my mother.
The photo is at least 64yrs old.
Remarkably well preserved seeing as my grandmother
had it in a normal scrapbook stuck down with
sticky tape.
It is also hand coloured. Mum was telling me the tutu
was actually pinned to the backdrop.
This was not long after the depression so the material was hard to
come by and I think it was just cheesecloth hand died by Nan.

I have used a Prima mask on the background with gesso. I only did around the outside edge because I knew the photo and embellies would hide the centre.
I then picked three complementary shades of glimmer mist, started with the lightest one and just built up the colour.
I have used a websters pattern paper behind the photo as it had a scollop already in the print and i just cut around it. All the lovely roses that were on the sheet i have kept for a future project.

This is the left hand cluster on the frame I have used flowers from asst'd companies,The metal label plate has been wiped over with some orange paint to tone it into the project. I am not going to put any of the journaling on the front of the canvas, I will instead print something out and attach it to the back.

The flourish that frames the photo is actually an MDF off the page piece from twiddlybitz called Ornamental stand   code MDF05
I unfortuately was a bit ruff with mine putting it together and pulling it apart to paint and I broke off one of the swirls. So girls don't think it can't be revisited as something else than what it was designed for.
The piece is painted with Tim Holtz crackle paint spiced marmelade.
The twiddlybitz fern leaves are also crackle painted with old paper colour.

Again i have used asst'd companies for the blooms and i found the little ballerina at a local discount store called hot dollar. I coloured the white skeleton leaves with Tutu pink  glimmer glam.

I wont be able to send this around Australia for our expo stand simply because it is irreplaceable.
So i hope you enjoyed what i have done with it.

Now girls if you can tell me what the code is for the piece I Broke and reused in this project I will be sending you out a RAK. Just put the code in your comments please and I will randomly pull a name out of a hat.

Have fun hope to see some of you at the Penrith show. The wonderfully talented Carol Thompson is up next click here to view.

Beyond the Door Sept. challenge

This my layout for the september challenge at "Beyond the Door" I was purely inspired by the colours used in the inspiration room and I wanted to use stripes also because of the rug on the floor. I have used a paper range from Crate Paper and my chipboard is from Twiddlybitz. This is my gorgeous nephew and he is just like his Aunty Tacey when it comes to chips they HAVE to be the green ones!!!!!!!(chicken flavour)

This my layout for the "beyond the door" june challenge. I have taken my inspiration from the colours in the room and the round light fittings inspired the feature flower. I have used Twiddlybitz chipboard for my embellies and title.

Go to the twiddlybitz ning for product list.

TwiddlyBitz

After being inspired by the very talented Nathalie Kalbach recently I got creative with a 12x12 piece of cork, some impasto and misting sprays. The impasto is not as porous as gesso so it took longer for the colours to permiate. I used tattered Angels screens on the background with the impasto over the top. I have imbedded some metal charms and some medical gauze. You then let it dry or very carefully help it along with a heat gun. I found after it was dry it was very soft and flexible like a piece of fabric which was cool.

This is the finished layout. I have added my favourite chipboard of cause "TwiddlyBitz"

Playing with the Cricut

Using a PVC plastic cover from my sons project book i cut some shapes to use as masks. I selected from the indie art cartridge the flame, heart and diamond. Flame, - fit to page-, speed medium, pressure maxiumum and blade 6 Heart, only difference was i took off fit to page and selected size 4" diamond selected size 4" the cut was great on the flame even though it didn't go all the way through it snapped apart really easily. It was a bit harder for the heart i had to use sissors in some places and the diamond didn't want to come to the party at all. I think this was because my cutting matt was not sticky enough and the sheet of PVC wasn't totally flat. To do the background i started with a burnt orange piece of cardstock. Using the flame in the centre and the dicard piece from the heart i sprayed Black gold glimmer mist first and i moved the discard peice around and sprayed with candy apple red. I blended some black distress ink around the edges and used some red paint for the top edge to drip a little. For the layout i cut another Heart size 3" speed medium, pressure high and blade set on 4. I then inked over the top with a faux crackle stamp and gold brillance ink. The word Heartbreaker i picked size 1 1/4 " which is about as small as i think you could take it, as mine was nearly ripping in the cut. I used the same settings as above for the heart. I only used scrap pieces of cardstock for this layout and here is the finished page.

Boxing day 2010

Boxing Day with the Family
Well all my side of the family that is, all 21 of them. We also had a surprise visit from Dad's cousins who we hadn't seen for a very long time. Dad loved it. The kids wanted to Know what they were to them so i said they are pops cousins, mums second cousins and your third cousins their expression were priceless... geneolgy isn't going to be their thing!!!!
The noodle boxes were a big hit and they all got into the spirit of a costume change, we even piled it up on some poor specimums
I have a lots of printing to do and some major tiding up before i can get creative. I am really keen to get some of these funny faces onto a layout. So I will say bye for now and start cleaning my scrap space.
